A MAN lived for ten years with the
rotting corpse of his lodger under an
upturned sofa in his front room because
he was afraid he might get into
trouble.

Alan Derrick discovered the body
of his drinking buddy Dennis Pring
on his settee in 1998, an inquest heard
yesterday.

He wrongly believed he would be
evicted for taking in a lodger at his
sheltered housing flat.

Neighbours complained to the council
about foul smells from the property
– but officers twice failed to spot
the body during visits.

Mr Pring’s fully decomposed skeleton
was finally discovered in January
2008 when Derrick was evicted from
the filthy, litter-strewn flat in Bristol.
