mostdangerousfetish
Auto-erotic asphyxiation is the intentional restriction of oxygen to the brain for sexual arousal E.g. plastic bag
Its a type of fetish activity which falls under the bondage, domination and sadomasochism umbrella. It gives people a buzz firstly physiologically, by increasing carbon dioxide in the blood, but also psychologically as people often dress up in fetish-wear while they're doing it
Fetishes are far more common in men than women. We put it down to the visual aspect of fetish wear and objects, which appeal more to men as they are generally more sexually aroused by visual images than women. Some men seeking sexual stimulation from pornographic images on the internet can find certain fetishes appealing, and that can be a self-reinforcing cycle as men associate the pleasure of orgasm with the particular fetish, resulting in them further pursuing the activity. It’s like if you buy a car magazine, get into the world of classic cars and suddenly start buying them. It’s the same with sexual sub-groups. Male sexual subcultures are more developed than female ones.
While ‘breath play’ is a part of the BDSM scene, auto-erotic asphyxiation is, fortunately, not a widespread activity. Of all the unusual sexual behaviours out there, this is the most dangerous due to the numbers of deaths that result from it. The risk is that people lose consciousness
while depriving themselves of oxygen – from using belts, ropes or plastic bags – but the asphyxiation continues, killing them. And the risk is increased if the individual has taken drugs or alcohol, making them more likely to lose consciousness. There’s also an increased risk of heart attack, so while an individual thinks he may be able to stop the asphyxiation before he falls unconscious, in reality he may die of heart failure first.
